Hey everybody,
What an amazing day last Sunday turned out to be. Our Celebration Arts Team served up a service with a twist. I really applaud the work it took to lead us so well to experience God in singing. I’ve had several people ask what instrument that flute thing was that Mike Oitzman played. It’s a Penny Whistle, and it’s always a pleasure to have that added surprise in our service. The change of pace and variety we experienced on Sunday was awesome. Make sure to tell the CA Team how much you appreciate them.
Last Sunday we focused on a phrase: “Don’t Tell Me, Show Me.” It fit so well with what we learned through the teaching from James. I’ve heard from several people that their conversations on Sunday afternoon centered on this life-changing concept and how well it tied in to what God spoke to us through James. Summer is a great time to grow with God. I want to encourage you that God meets us each week as we come together. Make it a priority to be with us.
Thank you so much for how you have responded to the giving challenge for the past few weeks. July is usually a low giving month, and yet it was the first month this year that our giving was over budget. I was so encouraged. You are so amazing. Please continue to make your consistent giving a priority. We are currently $60k behind for the year. The staff is doing great at curtailing spending. We’re looking at ways to do even better as we go through the final 5 months of 2010. Let’s all be faithful stewards together.
On Sunday we continue our series through James as we learn to be “Authentic.” Make sure to read James 3:1-12 so that you come ready to hear what God has to say about controlling our tongues.
Loving this series,
Pastor Ron

This Week at Twin Cities - July 23, 2010
Hey everybody,
I want to highlight our Community Impact Team today. The CIT was formed as part of our 2010 Plan: 24 Months of Love for the purpose of getting us more engaged in sharing the love of Jesus locally. It’s been pretty cool to see how God has moved people who have hearts for the hurting locally to energize this ministry focus.
Pastor John works with the various team leaders as they expand our impact in Western Nevada County. Our CIT currently serves the following: Elderly Outreach, Jail and Juvenile Hall, At-Risk Students, Serve Our Schools, Interfaith Food Ministry, Anew Day, Nevada County Food Bank, LivingWell Medical Clinic, Women of Worth, Habitat for Humanity, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Last Sunday, Mike Blake, Principal of the Park Avenue Alternative Education Site, came to our services to thank us for the service projects we have done in his school. Here’s a portion of the letter he presented to us:
“Thank you so much for the love you’ve given to Park Avenue School. The plaza you built is gorgeous and added a striking element of beauty to our graduation last week. The plaza reflects your generosity in both the donations of your time and money. Thank you for your commitment and vision. The plaza is an oasis at our school and serves as the central point for our outdoor activities. Thank you for your gift of labor and love. I look forward to working with you in the future. Please keep us in your prayers.”
Wow! It’s exciting to be able to help people and know that what we did mattered. I want to encourage you to contact Pastor John if you have a heart for serving in our community.
Make sure to read James 2:14-26 to be prepared for Sunday.

This Week at Twin Cities - July 15, 2010
Hey everybody,
Loving God. Loving People. Linking Arms. Living the Mission. These four statements identify who we continue to strive to be as a church. These four statements of purpose unify us, strengthen us, motivate us and inspire us to work together to fulfill God’s call on our church and on us as individual parts of this specific church called Twin Cities.
In the past several years, we have taken the Loving People part very seriously. We have not and by God’s grace will never lose touch with the Loving God part, because without His love filling our every thought and action, we’ll not be all He desires. Folks, we must love people, and we must do it together. We must let that be our driving mission.
This Sunday we get to tackle one of the most eye-opening, spine-straightening, courage-testing, compassion-inspiring set of verses from James. Go ahead and open your Bible and read it now. James 2:1-13.
These verses define who Jesus has called us to be. I believe these verses describe who we are seeking to become. They describe what sets us apart and makes us unique. We do not exist just for members only. This is not a place where you must look a certain way in order to fit in and be included.
This is why we are continually prodded and poked to think outside of our own needs and wants. This is why we strategically serve with our Community Partners right here in Western Nevada County. This is why we strategically partner with Pastor Robert and El Shaddai World Ministries in Uganda. This is why we are continually encouraged to engage in serving others in some way each year. This is why we’ll be retooling our Small Groups to be Community Groups in the Fall.
It’s all about being on mission with God. I look forward to hearing how the words written by James impact our lives this Sunday.

This Week at Twin Cities - July 8, 2010
Hey everybody,
Wow! I was so thrilled by your expressions of gratitude and appreciation for our Independence Day service. Big thanks go out to all of our ministry teams for serving on a day when the rest of America played. Twin Cities would not exist or be the church we are without the faithful servants who give of themselves so faithfully FOR others.
If you were not able to be with us on Sunday, you’ll want to watch the service online or get a copy of the CD so you can be in tune with what God is about to do in the life of our church through our “Authentic” series. You could even get up early and listen to the service on KNCO 830AM at 7:00 on Sunday morning as you get ready to come to church.
Make sure to bring your Bible with you. Our “Authentic” series is a great series to practice using your Bible during our services. Each week we’re going through a section of the New Testament book of James. If you forget your Bible, we’ve got you covered. Just look for the bookshelves on each side of the fireplace. Grab a Bible as you go by and then put it back as you leave. People who do not have a Bible at all will be encouraged to take it with them for FREE! We want people to have access to God’s word wherever they are.
I want to suggest that you open your Bible before Sunday and read James 1:19-27. You’ll be even more prepared for what you hear when you get here. The overall theme we’ll be looking at is “Authentic Obedience: Doing Hard Things.”
Loving the summer with you,
Pastor Ron

This Week at Twin Cities - July 1, 2010
Hey everybody, bring your Bible to church this week. One of our 2010 goals is that each of us would spend more time in our Bibles – reading, reflecting and journaling. This summer we’re going to be in a series that takes us verse by verse through the New Testament book of James. You’ll be able to read along in your own Bible, making it even more personal to you. You’ll be able to write notes in the pages of your own Bible, making it even more practical for you.
Make sure to grab your Bible as you head out to church this Sunday.
If you happen to forget your Bible, we’re going to have copies available in the lobby. At each side of the fireplace before the auditorium entrance, there will be a bookshelf with Bibles on it. Just grab one as you go by and then put it back as you leave. People who do not have a Bible at all will be encouraged to take it with them for FREE! We want people to have access to God’s word wherever they are.
Last week, I mentioned to everyone that our church has been so effective at keeping expenses in line with giving from the day our church began. It seemed like God always brought people who could fill the financial gaps when the need became the greatest. Well, we’re in a season where we need people to step in and fill the gaps. I know we have people who are not able to give at all – we’re not asking you to. I also know that we have people who are giving and could give more if they were asked – we’re asking you to.
If we all give consistently and faithfully as God directs, we will weather this economic struggle.
Giving my all with you,
Pastor Ron
