Be Wise: Stop Doing Dumb Things began last Sunday on Friend Day. I was pretty pumped by how many people invited friends and family to experience our amazing church. On Sunday, I ended my talk with this thought. Instead of having to say, “Next time I’ll do the wise thing” we can make it our goal to say, “I’m going to do the wise thing now.” If we were able to engage and do the right thing in the moment, we would be able to avert much of the negative consequences and regrets we experience when we stay stuck in old patterns of thinking. This Sunday we will talk about the power of our words. We’ve all been hurt by some ill-timed and negative words or we’ve been helped by some perfectly-timed and encouraging words. Even as you read this, some of you can still hear those words that either tore you down or built you up. I hope you will make it your plan to be with us on Sunday. I think it’s on purpose that words are the topic of a majority of issues dealt with in Proverbs.
We received word of a fire at the children’s home we sponsor in Uganda. By God’s mercies, no one was hurt, but they had major fire damage to the dorms, mattresses, bedding, and most of the boy’s clothing. The estimate to rebuild and replace is $15,000. They don’t have funds for damage such as this. Our Global Reach Team has requested that we offer our church an opportunity to give a special offering to El Shaddai World Ministries this Sunday. We will be receiving the offering after our normal offerings in the same way we do our quarterly benevolence offerings.
