Hey Everyone! Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I’m eager to focus on God’s goodness in my life for an entire day! This has been a very challenging year in the Thompson house. We’ve experienced death, disease, depression and discouragement. That’s one view of our reality. We’ve also experienced life, healing, joy and hope. That’s the reality of life – it can be full of extremes.
Holidays have a way of turning up the heat on the pain in our lives. Many of you know about that. You’ve lost a spouse or parent. Your finances are in shambles. Your health is sketchy. Your family is full of conflict. Your career or job is disappointing. Your dreams are foggy. In these times, it takes faith and a sense of divine purpose to force yourself to move your eyes off of your circumstances – not deny them – onto a different reality.
The reality I’m talking about is this: God is good and His love endures forever. In even the most difficult of circumstances, God can be seen. In fact Romans 8 is an amazing chapter of the Bible to read if you want an attitude adjustment. Maybe you can read that tomorrow as part of your Thanksgiving reflections. It’s full of hope and truth about God’s provision!
As we officially enter into the holiday season, I’m committed to praying for you. I’m asking God to show you His goodness and love. May you experience His presence and know that you are not alone. God is with you! Look for evidence of His hand at work in your life, and will yourself to praise and thank Him. You might want to take time out this weekend to write a “gratitude letter.” I think I’ll do that as well. I’ll just start with a blank piece of paper and every time I have another gratitude thought I’ll write it down. What a great way to focus on God’s goodness.
Have a great Thanksgiving,
Pastor Ron
