Hey Gang,
I want to ask you to make a special effort to be in one of our services this week as we honor David and Joanie Carothers for 13½ years of faithful service here at Twin Cities Church. Wow! I remember, like it was yesterday, the moment when David and Joanie walked down the hallway over in our Hughes Road office when David came to interview. He looked so young then – with none of that gray hair. We were still over at Gold Run Elementary School. We had the old moving truck that carried all of our church equipment each week for set up. We only dreamed of the idea that Small Groups would be key to our future. We still needed to develop systems which would allow us to grow. And David has been key to all of that happening.
I am so grateful for his loyal friendship and dedicated service. David exemplifies the verse from 1 Corinthians 10:31, which says, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” He has served God well. He has kept his hand to the plow. He has run his race well with determination in every step. We will miss him.
We can celebrate what God has done in him, and how we’re all part of the person David has become. He walks, talks and breathes Twin Cities’ DNA, and that will go with him to Fresno. We get to pray and watch with anticipation all God will do through David as he serves and leads there with passion. We get to know that we’re part of what God is doing there.
On Sunday when he gets up to deliver his final message as our pastor, I hope you will join me in giving him a boisterous, Twin Cities standing ovation. He gets to speak the final message in our Vantage Point series. The message is called “Seeing God’s Purpose In Changing Times.” How appropriate!
I also hope you will come back that afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 for a come and go Open House to let David and Joanie know how much they have blessed our lives. We’ll have places for you to write notes which will go in a special memories album we’ll give them. We’ll have a giving spot for those who would like to give a financial gift as a way of expressing love to them.
I look forward to Sunday with pride in my heart because of the man David has become and because of how I know you are going to respond as we say our goodbyes.
Pastor Ron
